Run On, Run On... Edit
Posted by greatstew on Apr 30, 2011 10:07 am
I don't think it was any coincidence (they don't exist anyway, right?) that so many things started going my way after I started faithfully watching the Oprah Winfrey Show in 1993. I now believe this Show has had an even greater impact on my Life than I was ever aware of until recently. One of the many great inspirations I have received from Oprah was the desire to RUN! Soon after I began watching, Oprah trained for and ran the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C. with Bob Greene. I was totally captivated, but did not act on my gut feeling to start running for several more years. I had only recently "discovered" excercise at age 20 and lost about 50 pounds, but not by running. Why would you do that! When I finally did, you could not stop me! I'm not the fastest runner in the World, or Chicago...or my neighborhood. I'm certainly not a natural born runner, but I definitely have the strength, stamina, determination and motivation to go the distance. In fact, I eventually worked up to running the Chicago Marathon twice, in 2008 and 2009. I surprised even myself with my accomplishment in the end. During the many months of training for those marathons and the many shorter distance runs I have taken part in, I have often thought of Oprah's journey to her Marathon Victory (You're a Winner just for doing it!). I've noticed runners often compare themselves to Oprah's finish time. It's just another of the infinite ways we are able to relate to this truly amazing Woman. I will turn 40 in a few weeks and then start training for the New York City Marthon to take place 11-6-11. Unbelieveable! I got goose bumps when there was a clip on a recent Oprah Show that showed her in the Marathon and her bib number was 40! What does that mean?!?! I am so excited to watch Oprah's Next Chapter unfold. Even though I am sad to see the talk show end, I would probably do the same thing if I were her in order to expand my horizons. She will continue to Shine a Light for all of us to see the World and each other more clearly. THANK YOU, OPRAH WINFREY...AND RUN ON, MY FRIEND!!
